Daisy the Wonder Cat

Daisy is in kidney failure, caused by lymphoma. The vet is coming over tomorrow so that we can say our final goodbye in a safe and comfortable place.

Daisy turned 15 in August, and has been with me since he was 8 weeks old. There is no easy way to say goodbye to such a wonderful friend. I had been hoping that he would make it until just before we went away, but it is not to be. The house will seem lonely without his constant snarls, piles of vomit, and the occasional poo in odd places just to keep us in line.

National Breastfeeding Strategy

The government has commissioned a research company to do research on a national breastfeeding strategy. Now is your chance to have your say.  The survey closes on the 14th, so you don’t have much time!

If you can’t be bothered reading the link – email the answers to the following questions to nbs@allenconsult.com.au

  • Do you think that support and the promotion of breastfeeding should be provided consistently to all mothers and women across Australia?
  • In your experience, did promotion of breastfeeding while you (or your partner) was pregnant encourage starting and/or continuing breastfeeding? What things seemed to help the most? Why?
  • Do you think that there is enough breastfeeding support provided to new mothers?
  • Have you or your partner ever sought or been referred to a breastfeeding support service or lactation consultant? What sort of service? Did it make a difference in you/your partner’s ability to continue breastfeeding?
  • How do you think breastfeeding promotion and / or support could be better provided?
  • Do you think that information such as the rates of breastfeeding (number of babies breastfed as a percentage of the total population of babies of particular ages) and other similar information should be collected on a national level?

The universe is continuing to suck

Inigo is still awesome, he just turned 20 months, and I owe him a post about how awesome he is right now.  But that is not for today.

The news today is not awesome.

A woman took her own life on Thursday night.  I didn’t know her well, but I do know her family very well.  Her brother and I dated for a while, back in the mists of time, and her mother has always been wonderful to me.  My brother and her brother were best friends in high school, and her home was a home away from home fro Adam and I.  Her family has been visited by the death of an older son, years ago, and back then I thought how unfair it was that such good people had to suffer so much pain – and now they are living through the death of a much loved daughter and sibling again.

I am sure that life will be awesome again one day. but for now, the pain and misery is overwhelming.

OMG WTF*

Opera Dragostea Din Tei. Just when you thought you had seen every permutation of an internet viral phenomena, here comes the opera.

No offense to the chick, but I think it really asks for all male voices. Just an opinion.

*Title comes from the number plate of a yellow sportscar we used to see outside the bikie house.
