I’ve hesitated about posting this, because I really feel strongly that women should not be made to feel guilty about the choices they make to feed their children. But on the other hand, if everyone shies away from making this sort of information public, we’ll have yet another generation of babies fed on artificial milk because there wasn’t enough information and support for their mothers.

This is something I worry about. I have a few friends who have decided to stop feeding and switch to formula after a few months. I have always felt that as a friend I should support them and remain non-judgmental but I know they don’t fully realise the damage that can be done by feeding their babies with formula. I have said as much as I can without crossing the line, IYKWIM. I think that there should be more public education because so many parents see formula as an equal to breastmilk. I think perhaps if the risks were made more public, parents wouldn’t make the choice so lightly. Of course there are still going to be cases where babies need to have formula or a woman feels that is what suits her best and that is every woman’s right but maybe there would be a positive effect on b/feeding rates? Who knows.
